FDIC Phishing Alert

PHISHING ALERT
BOGUS EMAILS INFORM CUSTOMERS THEIR BANK
HAS FAILED, SEEKS PERSONAL INFORMATION

Fraudulent emails purport to be from FDIC, direct recipients to bogus Website to check account insurance coverage.

The Peoples Bank and the Mississippi Bankers Association has learned that many bank customers have received bogus emails claiming that the customer's bank has failed and its assets taken over by FDIC.   These emails request that the recipient go to a bogus Website to "check your Deposit Insurance Coverage."

THESE EMAILS ARE BOGUS.  The emails are designed to appear to be from FDIC. They represent a sophisticated phishing operation which seeks customers’ personal account information.  NO ONE SHOULD GO TO THIS BOGUS WEBSITE.  NO ONE SHOULD OPEN ANY ATTACHMENT TO SUCH EMAILS.  In this case, the link is designed to appear to be a page of the FDIC’s official site.  IT IS NOT.  The FDIC does not communicate with customers of insured banks in this manner.  .

Customers should be aware of these bogus emails that are being delivered to them.  The Peoples Bank is warning its customers
to NOT respond to any such emails – and to NOT  visit any Web site linked from these emails.

Customers are encouraged to advise the bank if they encounter these emails.
